HPTN Research Ethics

HPTN has a commitment to ethical research

The leadership and investigators of the HPTN seek to ensure the inclusion of ethical practices in the design and conduct of the network's research studies. This is done by working within the protocol development structure to ensure necessary ethical attention and review in the development process of HPTN concepts, protocols and manuscripts.   To help carry out that goal, the network leadership empanelled the Ethics Working Group (EWG).  The EWG includes experts in the field of human subjects research ethics and HPTU site staff who serve as resources to protocol teams, providing practical recommendations and keeping protocol teams abreast of cutting edge issues.  The EWG also provides guidelines and strategies for enhancement of ethics capacity at research sites, with a particular emphasis on the understanding of informed consent by potential participants.
