Africa Regional Community Training Workshop
Lusaka, Zambia

Malawi South Africa Tanzania Uganda Zambia Zimbabwe

The Community Advisory Board (CAB) representatives and Community Educators (CEs)/liaisons in Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe participated in the second annual workshop for the sites of the Africa Regional Working Group. The co chairs of the Africa RWG, Wendoa Mwambu and Smanga Ntshele, and the CORE Community Involvement Program staff facilitated the 3 and one half days skills-building workshop with the help of our host HPT in Lusaka, Zambia.

Workshop goal:  To establish a community participation and education strategy to ensure active participation at local, regional and international levels that embraces sound ethics within the HPTN.

Workshop objectives:

To develop an understanding of ethical guidelines in HPTN research and how they apply in practice.
To develop indicators that measures the impact of community involvement in research.
To develop the knowledge and skills of Community Educators and advisors to support HIV education and training for research communities.
To outline successful strategies on forming and sustaining CABs/ local CWGs.
To share and suggest experiences on recruitment and retention strategies that have worked at different sites.
