Focus
of the NEC Action Plan
- Better communication
to Network members.
At all levels of Network participation,
the NEC will provide wider dissemination of annual evaluation results
than in previous years to ensure effective communication of Network
performance indicators and measurements. In addition, plans are underway
to provide sites with bi-monthly reports about site performance that
will be submitted to the HPTUs. These reports will include: accrual of
eligible participants, retention of study participants, compliance with
regulatory standards and good clinical and laboratory practice, specimen
handling and data management.
- Feedback from working
group and committee chairs on the survey design and results.
The NEC will nurture the Network's
ability to work collaboratively by seeking assistance from working group
and committee leadership in defining program objectives and logic,
selecting meaningful outcome measures, and drawing conclusions from
findings. The idea is that the results will not be useful if we are not
able to empower committees to take action, corrective or otherwise,
based on the results of the assessment exercise.
- Seek more two-way
communication with the HPTUs
Performance evaluation helps HPTUs
ensure that working groups and committees are effectively contributing
to those protocols which they have undertaken and to elicit closer
scrutiny and corrective action where successful and timely completion
of activities is in jeopardy.
The NEC is charged with directing the
network evaluation. The committee is chaired by Vivian McLaurin, HPTN
Evaluation Coordinator. Representatives from the SDMC, the CL, the CORE,
the Divisions of AIDS (DAIDS) and the site monitoring contractor (PPD) are
committee members. In addition, U.S. and international Principal
Investigators (PIs), study coordinators and community representatives also
sit on the committee. HPTU PI and site coordinator representatives may be
nominated by any HPTU and are selected by the PLG. The community
representatives are chosen through the Community Working Group (CWG).
Three members of the NEC (including one PI and one study coordinator) will
be rotated off of the committee annually, unless asked to serve another
term.
